Types of Reclaimed French Limestone
Barr Gris Limestone is one of our most popular French Limestones which have grey surfaces that works with contemporary and traditional interiors, and it has a very subtle antique “hand-sewn” edge. Barr Gris is an extremely rare limestone that was historically used as second-story flooring and as ceiling material. Installed in a running bond fashion with uneven grout lines that are hand tucked, hand smoothed, and hand-brushed, make for a beautifully authentic reclaimed estate floor. The stone was laid on a rafter and limed-washed from below to create a white ceiling. This unique application of stone dates back 200 years and can only be found in France’s Provence region.
Genuine, antique, or aged Blonde Barr limestone from France is very similar to Barr Gris in that these slabs were used as both floor and ceiling tiles. Barr Blonde can be supplied in its purest form and features all the hallmarks of reclaimed material, and is a beautiful stone with light shades of blonde, sand, and yellow colors.

Reclaimed French Limestone Process
French limestone is one of the noblest limestones the world has ever known. For centuries, French limestone has been the stone of choice particularly with flooring and floor tiles for fine residences, estates, and casetles. It is considered the ultimate limestone for building projects due to the softness of the color palette and its durability. Although you can find limestone throughout the world, the limestone found in France is truly extraordinary.
From ornamental pieces of stone to magnificent flooring, worked stone was never wasted in old Europe. We can acquire the aged limestone by staying in the know for when a house in Europe gets tagged for demolition. We then are allowed to come in and acquire the stone from within the house and ship it back to the United States, where we put it in our clients’ homes. Though reclaimed french limestone is difficult to find, it is not impossible.
